MICTEG is a user community - organised by GFMER - of computer experts working with ICT (information & communication technology) to help medical practitioners and researchers throughout the world. Although the primary focus is on sharing expertise for open-source software and accessible low-cost hardware platforms, all contributions are welcome. Topics discussed among members of this group include :

  • Collaborative Technologies : Telemedicine, Teleradiology, Telepathology, Telediagnostics, Picture Archiving, Communication Systems.
  • Networks & Networking : Information Networks & Networking in Rural Clinics, Medical applicaions interoperability. Networks linking hospitals, medical schools, medical researchers for sharing data
  • Virtual Reality in Medicine : Telepresence Surgery, Medical Education, Surgical Simulations, Medical Visualisation
  • Emerging technologies in Medicine : broadband networks such as ATM & SONET, Video-Conferencing
  • Education : Connectivity to Medical Libraries & Medical Professionals

What are the benefits of joining this group?

The primary benefit is access to information shared by other members of this group and access to a database of technical know-how and/or pointers to existing solutions for medical ICT problems. Access will be through online discussion groups, an integrated chat system and through regularly scheduled video-conferencing. Other advantages to being part of this group are the following :
