Organisation and structure
The Fonds Universitaire
Maurice Chalumeau, the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research
(GFMER), the Department of Reproductive Health and Research (WHO/RHR) and
the Association Inter Hospitalo-Universitaire de Sexologie (AIHUS) – in
collaboration with the Department of Health of the Canton of Geneva, the
Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva and the Geneva Medical Association-
are accepting applications for the Course: From Research to Practice: Training
in Sexual Health Research.
The purpose
of this course is to provide training in clinical research in sexual health,
to educate graduates in research methodology and to acquaint trainees with
the most recent research advances. The course is aimed at participants already
involved in a research/research synthesis project wanting to complete their
project for publication or submission.
The course
is structured as follows:
Research
Methodology (2 weeks) covering: Study Designs, Critical Appraisal, Research
Synthesis, Strategies for Data Analysis, Ethics and Human Rights in clinical
research.
Sexual Health
(3 weeks) including: Research in Sexual Health, Sexual Functioning and
Dysfunctions, Rights and Ethics in Sexual Health Research, Sexually Transmitted
Diseases and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
Lecturers are
from WHO, the Fonds Universitaire Maurice Chalumeau, the GFMER, the Geneva
University and other collaborating academic institutions.
The course
will lead to a Certificate which can be obtained after having passed the
exams at the end of the course.

Eligibility
Participants
who want to undertake the training in Sexual Health research must fulfil
the following requirements:
-
being health
care professionals (university degree)
-
have a
profound knowledge of English
-
being involved
in research (e.g. in an ongoing research project, preparing a PhD or
similar)
Documentation
In order to apply for the course
and be considered by the course organisers, the following documents are
required:
-
a completed application form
-
a curriculum vitae, including
sections on: current and previous positions; responsibilities in research,
teaching and clinical work; the institution currently employed; and
a list of publications (if available)
-
a certified copy of the university
diploma/s
-
a letter of motivation stating
clearly the interests and reasons for applying to the course (one A4
page maximum)
-
an outline of the scientific
paper that will be completed/written up as part of the exams
-
an official attestation confirming
proficiency in the English language
-
two letters of reference,
preferably one from the current employer
-
if possible, an introduction
by the candidate's Head of Department stating her/his current role and
future involvement in the country's National Health Programme

Costs
The administrative
fees are CHF 1500 per participant.
Study Grants
Through contributions from several donor organisations, the course organisers
are making available a limited number of study grants, which will be offered
to selected participants to meet some of the costs of their participation
in the course.
