Routine antibiotics for induced abortion
A systematic review, including 12 randomised controlled trials, showed the following results:
Summary relative risk of for developing postabortal upper genital tract infection when receiving antibiotics compared to placebo: RR 0.58 (95% CI 0.47-0.71)
In high risk population: women with history of PID: RR 0.56, 95% CI 0.37 – 0.8;
Women with positive Chlamydia test: RR 0.38; 95% CI 0.15.0.92
In low-risk women: RR 0.65; 95% CI 0.47-0.90
