2nd Regional Reproductive Health Task Force Meeting Dakar, 20-24 October 2003 The 2nd Regional Reproductive Health Task Force Meeting took place from October 20-24 2003 in Dakar, Senegal. GFMER was invited to participate as a partner in this meeting, which was initiated by WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), Brazzaville. The meeting was supported by the Minister of Health, Senegal and chaired by the regional director for AFRO, Dr Samba. Participants were active members of the task force from the African continent and partners, such as non-governmental organisations. Important issues in the region, such as high maternal mortality & morbidity, infectious diseases, family planning, HIV/AIDS, the need for capacity strengthening and information exchange were discussed and possible strategies to combat these problems were developed during the meeting in several workshops by the participants. GFMER presented its postgraduate training programme and other ongoing activities in the region, which raised much interest for future collaboration. The results of the meeting will be submitted as recommendations to the WHO Regional Office (AFRO) and the progress will be assessed during the next meeting, in 2004 in Harare, Zimbabwe.
