OBJECTIVES

When you have completed this unit you should be able to:

1. Define jaundice and hyperbilirubinaemia.
2. Describe the excretion of bilirubin.
3. List the causes of jaundice.
4. List the dangers of hyperbilirubinaemia.
5. Understand haemolytic disease of the newborn.
6. Treat jaundice.
7. List the common causes and treatment of anaemia.
8. List the common causes and treatment of polycythaemia.
