Gugu R. Xaba graduated from the Medical University of Southern Africa with a Bachelor of Nursing Administration and Education in 1994, she completed an Honors Degree in Community Health in 1997 and a Master of Public Health in 2002.

Ms Gugu has just over 23 years’ experience in serving the community and in comprehensive public health services in different levels of service provision from the facility, local municipality, district health management, National Department of Health, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and international development organizations. She has gained experience in providing technical support to the South African government health and other related departments on multiple public health and community development interventions. She has developed and gained experience in the provision, management and strengthening of comprehensive health services using the integrated approach to primary healthcare.

Completed operations research: "Increasing access to ante-retroviral therapy (ART): Implementing a system of down-referral of ART-stable patients to PHC facilities in Ekurhuleni District, Gauteng Province”. 2010.

On-going operations research: “Evaluating the effect of Feeding Buddies on Adherence to WHO PMTCT Guidelines in two sub-districts in Uthungulu district of South Africa”. 2013.
