Dr. Lela Shengelia was born on June 24, 1969. She completed Medical Institute in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1996. 1997-1998 she studied and worked as a doctor-ordinator in the institute of post-graduate education in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. In 2011, she was awarded Master of Public Health from the Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam as a scholar of the Netherlands Fellowship Programme.
Since 1999, she has been working with non-governmental, international and governmental healthcare organizations. During about 16-years career, she worked as a gynecologist, reproductive healthcare coordinator and a public health specialist.
She is often invited by national and international NGOs and healthcare professional organizations as a resource person to address issues of public health interests, for example: maternal and child health, health information system etc.
Dr. Shengelia is relating to professional and civil society organizations of Georgia.
