Teaching family planning in Northeast Nigeria - Halima Mukaddas

Halima Mukaddas demonstrates to midwife educators in Northeast Nigeria how to use an anatomic model to teach family planning methods, like IUCD insertion, to patients. As part of a USAID funded project Nigeria has introduced the humanistic approach to training through use of anatomic models in all health-related schools. This has improved the pass rate of students for clinical skills in the schools as well as ensured patient safety in the practicum site where students practice skills on clients seeking care. The quality of family planning services has improved and the contraceptive prevalence rate in the states has also increased by 2-4%.
