President's Message
Dave Woods It is a great pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the International Association for Maternal and Neonatal Health to the 9th World IAMANEH Conference. The international office of IAMANEH wishes to thank the Egyptian Society of Maternal and Neonatal Health for accepting the challenge of organising this Conference. With the ever-expanding disparity in maternal and perinatal mortality rates between rich and poor communities, the need for closer co-operation has never been so great. Not only do health care providers in poor countries require financial assistance, but also help with training, appropriate technology, suitable management protocols and operational research. We know what our problems are and how to address them. What is needed is the will and capacity to implement the changes in health care practice that are urgently needed. IAMANEH was founded in Geneva in 1977 with the aim of improving the care of pregnant women and their newborn infants in poor countries through the formation of an association which could encourage closer communication between national societies and professional groups concerned with maternal and newborn wellbeing. Eight previous IAMANEH World Conferences have been held in developing countries where colleagues were able to meet and share ideas. Once again health professional have the opportunity of exchanging experiences and building new friendships. The theme of this Conference is very appropriately ”Facing the Current Maternal and Neonatal Health Problems in the developing countries” It is within this spirit of caring and sharing that I invite you all to link those who ask for assistance with colleagues who can provide the required knowledge, wisdom and support.
