My name is Muhereza Alex (MD) a medical doctor working for a USAID/PEPFAR-Funded programme for post conflict Northern Uganda (Northern Uganda malaria AIDS and TB, NUMAT) as district technical officer for clinical services in Kitgum district. My work involves providing the district with technical support in area of PMTCT, ART, HIV prevention, OVC, malaria and Tuberculosis.
I have special interests in working with vulnerable populations particularly women and children and conflict affected populations.
I have received trainings in the field of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and I am currently coordinating a special PEPFAR SGBV project across Northern Uganda aimed at increasing access to and utilisation of quality, timely clinical services for sexual violence survivors. This includes training/mentoring health workers, police and psychosocial support providers on the timely and appropriate SGBv response. I have also done some research on access to clinical services by sexual violence survivors ( to be published soon). Finding presented in the SVRI/MRC conference on sexual and reproductive health in South Africa (2009) and RAISE conference on Reproductive health in emergencies in Kampala (2008).
I founded Fitzmann health foundation, a charity to champion the fight against Breast and cervical cancers in women of Northern Uganda through massive awareness creation and access to medical examination, PAP smear tests, early referral and treatment. You are all welcome to participate in this life saving drive for the cause of our mothers and daughters.
