One of Africa’s persistent public policy challenges is not necessarily the absence of good laws and policies, but the gap between policy adoption and effective implementation.
Addressing this gap must begin within our own institutions. At the Independent Information Commission (IIC), part of my work involves strengthening the capacity of senior public-sector officials to understand and implement Liberia’s Freedom of Information Act of 2010.
Today, I facilitated a session for staff of the Liberia Food Authority, focusing on the mandate of the IIC, the scope of the FOI Act, the public’s right to access information, and the statutory exemptions to disclosure.
Good policy matters, but effective implementation is what turns policy into public value. Thanks for reading!
