Responding to the SRH needs of adolescents in the context of the COVID-19 crisis

Collaborating partners: Family Planning 2020 (FP2020), the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the World Health Organization (WHO)

Objectives of the course

  • To review the progress made in Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR) over the last 25 years.
  • To examine the priorities in ASRHR for next 25 years, with a particular focus on the SDGs.
  • To learn about the impacts of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on young people.
  • To identify approaches to respond to the SRH needs of adolescents during the COVID-19 crisis, that are appropriate to one’s context.

Introduction to the course

Topics to be covered in the course

  1. Lessons learned and experiences gained in improving the SRH of adolescents in the 25 years since the ICPD
  2. Priorities to build on the progress made for the next 25 years, with a particular focus on the SDGs
  3. The effects of COVID-19 on the lives of adolescents, and specifically on their SRH
  4. Approaches to ensuing the continuity of SRH information and service provision to adolescents in the context of the COVID-19 crisis; and using the opportunity of COVID-19 to build back better

Teaching-learning methods to be used in course

On each of the topic, the following items will be posted:

  1. A set of slides with accompanying talking points.
  2. The link to a short video.
  3. A set of 1-3 documents.
  4. A short assignment.

What is required of you?

For each module, participants must:

  • Study the slides and talking points.
  • Read the accompanying documents.
  • Complete the short assignment or interactive exercise, after going through the slide set and documents.

A personal coach will be assigned to each participant, whose role is to serve as tutor.

Course validation and certificate

In-order to obtain the certificate:

  • Participants are required to have completed the short assignments for the various course modules.
  • Participants are required to complete and submit the end of course survey.

The successful participants will receive a certificate signed by the World Health Organization, FP2020, UNFPA and the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research.

Awards

The top ten participants will receive an additional certificate of commendation.

They will also get a book for personal and professional development.

Course duration: 4 weeks

Course fee: USD. 200.00
