Prominent researchers from three universities presented their research findings at Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA).

The research was presented to Ministry of Health (MoH), Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau and hospital representatives and midwives from Addis Ababa.

The focus of the presentation was on the “Effectiveness of Mobile Assisted Birth Asphyxia Anticipation to Enhance the Execution of Helping Babies Breath Practice among Birth Attendants in Ethiopia: a Randomized Controlled Trial”.

The presentation was officially opened by Sr. Zemzem Muhammed Maternal Health Desk team Leader at Ministry of Health Ethiopia. She highlighted the MoH health Sector Transformation plan and Current Strategic Initiatives. Among the initiatives are Digitalization and Newborn Survival Initiative. She acknowledged researchers in detecting birth asphyxia prediction, which is the 2nd most important cause of neonatal mortality.

On behalf of EMwA, Fekadu Mazengia expressed his profound appreciation for the significant efforts of the young researchers in advancing midwifery research in Ethiopia. He highlighted the exceptional relevance of the study, noting its alignment with critical national health initiatives, strategic directions, and the priority scopes of practice for midwives. Furthermore, he commended the high methodological quality of the research, emphasized by its design as a Randomized Controlled Trial supported by a Meta-analysis.

Fekadu extended his acknowledgment to the researchers for their outstanding initiative and commitment. He also expressed gratitude to Laerdal Global Health for their generous funding, and to the Federal Ministry of Health, the Addis Ababa Regional Health Bureau, the participating hospitals, and all personnel who contributed to the success of the research.

The research team, in addition to their role as academicians in their universities, also double as research advisory committees of EMwA.
